Sc-Delfland

Sc-Delfland consists of two different schools: Grotius College and Christian Lyceum Delft (CLD). The two schools have started working together as one school in 2012. Grotius College, named after the famous Hugo Grotius, was founded in 1864. Now it consists of four locations with approximately 1,400 students attending these schools.

One of those locations was the vmbo (preparatory secondary vocational education) department formerly located at the Van Bleyswijckstraat, before they started to work together with CLD. CLD is a Protestant-Christian school community founded in 1948. The school continues to function within three locations in addition to Sc-Delfland. There are more than 2,400 students spread over the locations which offer secondary education at vmbo, havo and vwo levels. As mentioned before, Sc-Delfland was formed in 2012 in order to offer better education to the students at both Grotius College and CLD.

Our school also works together with the ISK location which is the branch that educates newcomers to the Netherlands. Partly due to this fact, but also the fact that Delft and the surrounding areas are extremely diverse, multicultural places, our school consists of students from backgrounds and countries all over the world. We have students who were either born in, came from or have origins from approximately 35 countries. As a result, our school has become a place where students from different cultures meet, interact with each other and learn to appreciate each other. As of now, our school consists of 540 students and around 75 teachers. The motivation to join this project is to upscale the attention given to the challenges we as Europeans are facing, due to our growing ecological footprint.

Our school has already taken some important measures. However, we feel that participating in this project will help take even more and bigger steps towards reducing our ecological footprint as a school, as well as our students'. A group of 5 teachers are in charge of coordinating the project within the school. If any of them leave their post, the other 4 will still be able to coordinate the project without problems. All teachers in this group have previous experience in international projects. Our school has been involved in five Comenius projects and two Erasmus+ projects. The international projects are integrated in our school curriculum and have become an important part of our identity. Teachers, management staff, students, parents and relevant organizations are involved. The broad subject matter allows itself to be integrated into our curriculum easily by utilizing the expertise of our different teachers. They will be responsible for lessons about the different topics concerning our ecological footprint while the coordinators of this project will mainly focus on the realization of the project aims and goals.
